The Dodge Viper is Dead

Jun 21, 2016 - 11:37 PM - by

Although it was expected, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has made it official: Dodge Viper production will end in 2017.

To celebrate both the 25th anniversary and final year of production of the Dodge Viper, the brand has released a set of five special edition cars. Beginning on June 24, all of five of these special edition models will be available for purchase as 2017 model year vehicles.

Kicking off these special edition models is the Viper 1:28 Edition ACR, which commemorates the ACR’s lap record at Laguna Seca Raceway which sits at 1:28.65. Features on this car include ACR stripes, the extreme aero package, carbon ceramic brakes, 1:28 Edition badging, red accent stitching and a custom car cover that matches the car’s exterior paint. There will be 28 1:28 Edition cars available for purchase.

The Viper GTS-R Commemorative Edition ACR pays tribute to the most iconic Viper paint job: white with blue stripes, introduced on the 1998 Viper GTS-R GT2 Championship Edition. This car includes the extreme aero package, carbon ceramic brakes, exterior carbon package, red stryker decal, USAflag decals on the b-pillar, red seatbelts, a serialized instrument panel and a custom car cover. 100 examples of this car will be available.

The Viper VooDoo II Edition resembles the original 2010 Viper VooDoo Edition, coming with a graphite metallic stripe with red tracer outline, carbon ceramic brakes, the extreme aero package, VooDoo II badges, silver accent stitching inside and a custom car cover. Just 31 of these units will be made available.

A new Snakeskin Green color has been introduced for the next special edition model, the Skakeskin Edition GTC. It receives the advanced aero package, a GT black interior, a serialized instrument penal with a Snakeskin badge, and a customer car cover that shows the customer’s name on the driver’s side door. Just 25 units of this special edition will be made available.

Finally we have the Dodge Dealer Edition ACR, which can only be bought at the two highest volume Viper dealers in the US: Tomball Dodge of Tomball, Texas, and Roanoke Dodge of Roanoke, Ill. This car is finished in white with a blue stripe, a red driver’s seat, carbon ceramic brakes, the extreme aero package, the ACR interior with red stitching and of course, a custom car cover. Just 33 units of this special edition will be built.

The life of the Viper will come to an end in 2017, though rumor has it that a new model may be on its way, though we may have to wait a little while.

Add Satellite to the Base 200/RAE radio

Jun 20, 2016 - 5:12 AM - by RoyHardin
I have the base 200/RAE with uconnect. I figured it would be relatively easy to install the H version of the radio and add the sat antenna to get sirius.
But I am realizing I don't know what capability the base satellite unit has. Being used to pause, rewind, etc. for satellite is something that may make
having to have an aftermarket satellite receiver worthwhile. If you have a 200/RAE with satellite, can you tell me what commands you have for satellite?
Is it just the base tune channels, etc., or can you pause and rewind. Otherwise, I may go for either the standard aftermarket receiver or a new head unit -
if I can keep all the uconnect functionality. By the way, I would have bought one with the top of the line radio, but our car was totalled and I only had a
few days to get a new car - and this was the best one I could find. In fact, the Dodge Dart was the only car I saw that I wanted to get. So, I could settle
for a lesser radio to start.

5 Inexpensive Must-Have New Car Accessories

Jun 01, 2016 - 1:53 PM - by

That shiny new car is in your driveway — now here are a few inexpensive accessories that will help make life with your new wheels that much more pleasant.

Portable Car Vacuum

New-car smell is one of the most wonderful olfactory experiences one can have — so much so that it should be considered by historians and philosophers to be part of the great human experience.

The best way to keep that new car smell is to keep your car clean, and a portable vacuum is essential. These little suckers are powered by your car’s 12-volt power port, and they are cheaper than you might think—you can find one for less than $25.

Shop for a portable vacuum here.

Dash Cam

Dash cams record the drama unfolding outside your windshield. They provide visual evidence in the event of an accident (“You see, Ms. Insurance Adjuster, he really did pull out in front of me!”) and you never know when something spectacular will happen that will make you a YouTube sensation. Dash cams are more affordable than you might think — you can find them as cheap as $25 or even less.

Shop for your dash cam here.

Rain-X Rain Repellent

If you live where it rains and you’ve never tried Rain-X, you’re missing out. This nifty rain repellant puts a hydrophobic coating on the glass that causes water to bead up and flow off the windshield. At highway speeds, you can cruise through a downpour and not need your windshield wipers at all. Sure, it makes you safer, but with prices under 10 bucks a bottle, it’s worth it just for the novelty factor — and if you ski or snowboard, we understand that a coating of Rain-X works wonders on wet snow.

Shop for Rain-X for sale here.

Cellphone Mount

Invariably, buying a new car is much like celebrating New Year’s Day in that it brings with it a host of resolutions: I will stop speeding up through yellow lights, I will find parking spots where my doors won’t get dinged, I will not eat smelly food in the car. Talking on your cellphone ought to be on the list, especially since it’s illegal in so many states. A cellphone mount keeps your phone in easy reach and makes your phone an effective navigation system — and you can buy one for less than $10.

Shop for a cellphone mount here.

Digital Tire Pressure Gauge

Whether your car is new or old, your tires will lose air over time — about 1 pound per square inch (PSI) per month and another PSI for every 10-degree (F) drop in temperature. Low-pressure tires slow your car down and cause it to burn more fuel, and if they get really low, you’re at risk for a blowout. Most newer cars have a tire pressure monitoring system (TMPS) that can warn you when the tires get really low, but why wait? A digital tire pressure gauge helps you keep your tires where they ought to be, and with prices ranging from $5 to $20, every glovebox ought to have one.

Shop for a digital tire gauge here.

Apr 09, 2016 - 1:13 PM - by tsarnowski
Hi All,

2013 Dart 1.4 Turbo Limited

A rodent chewed through the wires that go to the left fog light and my window washer pump. I'm looking for the replacement part #s so I can replace.

Hoping as easy as disconnecting what I have and connecting new wires.
